Can you save the world by cooking? Sien Vanmaele looks for solutions to allay her concerns about the planet. Her quest begins at the seaside, where she is from and where all life originates. She takes the audience on a sensory journey along beaches and cliffs, reports on encounters with seaweed harvesters and saline farmers and filters the plastic pollution from her city life. She has you look, listen, smell, feel and taste, but also cut, crush and mix.
SEA MEAL is an evening of hope, a connecting dinner in which we discover new ways of looking at our stormy reality.
Sien is no newcomer to the theatre. With Laika she has already created the food performances Witlof from Syria (2017) and Cooking workshops in preparation for the end of the world (2021). SEA MEAL is the first part of a trilogy about caring for tomorrow’s world. LAND MEAL and AIR MEAL will follow.
At the start of the performance, you will be asked to stow any mobile devices away under your chair. The performance is entirely plant-based.
