Endless Stew
Not everything comes to an end

As an ‘open house’, Laika also joins forces with outside theatre- makers and offers space for special guest projects. This season, Laika is getting behind ‘Endless Stew’, a culinary performance by Bas Vanderschoot and Anouk Friedli.

It is the year 2127. Two visionary cooks land straight from the future in a portable kitchen pod. Their mission: to come up with the perfect recipe for an endless stew, one that simmers indefinitely. For 100 years, this travelling dish has been kept on the simmer in a speaking pressure cooker. Every time food is taken out of it, the cooks refill the vessel with new ingredients – preferably, foods that would otherwise go to waste. Past, present and future converge in a simmering stew.

‘Endless Stew’ is a circular ritual, in which theatre-makers and audience reflect on food wastage, then and now.
