Iago is a soldier serving in the Venetian army. He is passed over for promotion to the rank of officer and he is not happy about it. Iago hatches a plan to take revenge on his general Othello and rival Cassio. In the meantime, Othello, an Arab, has secretly married the white Desdemona. Iago points his arrow at this relationship, sowing jealousy in the general’s heart.
One of Shakespeare’s most intriguing plays is stripped of all its frills by Greet Vissers and Jo Roets and reduced to its essence in this timeless domestic tragedy about friendship and betrayal, love and jealousy. Social inequality in rank and race makes Othello vulnerable and the butt of Iago's demonic game.
