The tale of Floris, the son of the Arab King, and Blancefloer, the daughter of a Spanish slave. They are born on the same day and grow up together. Against the King’s will, Floris and Blancefloer become sweethearts. Their strong love bridges the gap between their different cultures and religions.
Kamishibai is an age-old form of street storytelling from Japan. In a portable miniature theatre, stories are told and illustrated with simple colour pictures. ABC (ART BASICS for CHILDREN) wants to breathe new life into this poetic storytelling theatre and asked Jo Roets to create a Kamishibai version of the successful production of Floris and Blancefloer. A musician, a singer and a storyteller present the story in a tent, with pictures by Paul Verrept.
